600E power supply issue

#1 Post by cqvenus » Tue Feb 05, 2008 1:04 pm

i found this forum b/c i was googling how to fix this thing...

my thinkpad 600E battery never did hold a charge. fine. i'm okay with that.

but the connection is loose. so if i move the thing ever so slightly, the wire moves and/or falls off the prong, and the computer turns off (b/c battery does not hold charge).

to fix this, i bought a new power socket.

well, searching through here it seems the power socket is a huge PITA to swap out... so...

any other suggestions?

See the tip in this thread from carbon_unit about bending the tab up inside the jack with a paper clip.

Welcome to the forum!

I recently put in a power socket on a slightly busted HP. It took four hours. The 600E should be easier, but still could be a pain.

The other option is to replace the motherboard. They should be around $35 or so on eBay. You might even find a parts machine for that price.
