Buying a new battery before selling the 600E?
Hello,
I am going to sell me old faithful 600E on eBay during the next week or so.
There is just one thing though: My battery died totally (wont charge) a couple of months ago. From your experience, would it be worth getting a new battery first (would be a copy, ~30 €) and selling it "with brand new battery". Or should I rather not bother.
The 600E sells for a bit over 100 € these days here in Germany.
Thanks for your advice,
Martin

Let them buy their own battery.
Agreed... You'll never get the money back on what you'll spend for a new battery..

If profit is your goal, consider parting out the machine. See what parts sell for individually and see how it comes out. In the states at least, you can often get more if you sell it in pieces than as one working unit. I'm not sure about the 600E though because of its age.

I agree... Adding a battery only adds to the "cost" for you. It won't really make a large difference in the price that you sell it for.
Besides, the new owner might not care too much about the battery. Some people only use a laptop to free up the space that an entire PC takes up. I have sold several Thinkpads to people that didn't care about the battery at all.

Alright. Thank you very much for the quick advice everyone.
It would have just been a point to me, if someone came around looking for a good bundle and then thinking "Oh, no. First thing will be bothering about a new battery." A new battery would make the packet seem more complete.
But you guys are probably right. I had the same thoughts.

Just want to second all that's been said. I've just bought a 600E and the owner had done exactly what you were proposing.zodiac wrote:Alright. Thank you very much for the quick advice everyone.

But - I have no use for a Li-Ion battery, so I've now got a new-ish one I don't want, which will only go off with age, and which probably no-one on Ebay would believe is new !
Pity you don't live in Britain - you could have stuck it on your machine ....
