External display 390X

I have a 390x model 2626-L0G. It has an external LCD, a CTX S500 15in 1024x768 and an external keyboard too. The thinkpad lid is always closed.

It is a dual boot with 98se and XP pro. Unusually, with 98 I get no problems at all but with XP when booting from cold the external screen shows all the usual splash displays while using the VGA but when XP finally loads the XGA driver no display ever appears. The backlight is on though. To get a display I have to simply power off and on the monitor.

Its my wife's machine and I would like to sort it out for her.

The bios is up to date @ ISB055WW, screen blanking is disabled and the boot display device is CRT. The monitor drivers are up to date too and the correct screen shows in device manager.

There are no drivers on the Lenovo site for NeoMagic and XP, so I have made sure that windows update has installed all the updates.

Anyone have any ideas on this one. It beats me why W98se can make the monitor work normally but XP gets stuck.

Here's an interesting driver; http://www.yournewdriver.com/NeoMagic_M ... n_6530.htm
The one from Lenovo is for W2K but apparently works well; http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4Q2KLZ

Thanks for the info. I will give them a try. Didn't realise that the IBM W2k would work with XP.

Off hand you wouldn't think so but I remember when XP first came out that I used some W2K device drivers. They both use the same file system and abstraction layers.
