I can't find any information on the max of i1400 on IBM site. It just say something bout 64Mb slot 1 and 64MB slot 2 total of 128. Is it capable of handling more?

That's what i have right now 64X64.

If 128 is the max, is anyway of hacking it so we can add more? I thought i saw somewhere where you just cut the line of the ram or something like that.

i did a research on upgrading the memory for 240X, in one of the
discussions it was mentioned that the max memory is related
to the chipset.

i also found discussion to "cut the line of the ram or something like that" - about 240X.

The max on all of the i14XX series is 256M. So your max is 256M. On the majority of the i14XX series the chipset is ALI Aladdin IV except for one line i1422, 1442, 1482, 1483, 1492 it is Intel 440BX and those models show documented support for 256M total.

The 240X will unofficially support 256M, Intel 440MX chipset. Officially it's 192M. By the way, it's cutting more than one trace, simply remove all of the memory modules by cutting them free with an exacto. Kind of a hack job though.

I can confirm that the 240X does take a 256MB module, I just removed one of the on board memory chips with knife.

Not an exact science and the mainboard where I removed the memory module is a mess but no adverse affects in the last few years.
