755CX - left clicker requires firm press - possible fixes?

The left clicker on my newly acquired 755CX requires a firm press to ensure proper contact. There is very little ware to the keyboard so I don't think the left clicker is worn out.

A "normal" press does not always make proper contact. If I press the clicker many times , things do improve and a "normal" press then works 90% of the time. But I seem to have to do the "many presses" trick each time I power up. There also appears to be a "sweet spot" at the center edge of the clicker. Pressing to the left or right of the "sweet spot" produces unreliable results.

I presume the left clicker contacts maybe require cleaning? Or maybe the clicker "pad" is not properly seated or something?

I've checked the Hardware Maintenance manual but there is no info on gaining access to the left clicker.

Any thoughts? Also is it possible to switch the left and right clicker "inards" - the right clicker works great and as its not used as much I guess I could just switch clicker "inards"?

Thanks

The HMM is for technicians who are trained to replace things, not repair them. A technician would replace the keyboard assembly, and you should be able to get one for under $50 delivered, maybe even one that's still sealed.

I would try spraying contact cleaner in there right after blowing it out with compressed air. If that didn't work, I'd replace the keyboard assembly because it's really easy and fast to do.

Come to think of it, you might find a parts or as-is machine with a good keyboard for even cheaper.
