600E Display Problem

#1 Post by poshgeordie » Mon Feb 25, 2008 5:39 pm

Hi

First post here - the forums have been very useful!

I'm thinking of buying a 600E from Ebay. Display is divided into about 9 vertical sections of same width across the screen.

First section is White, then the remaining ones alternate OK and black.

I cannot find anything that exactly relates to this in the forums, but does it sound like a badly seated video ribbon cable?

Many thanks in advance

Nick

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

That type of problem sounds like it could be several things:

- bad (or loose) video ribbon cable
- defect in the LCD itself
- motherboard video system

Obviously, if it's a simple matter of re-seating both ends of the ribbon cable then it won't cost you any money. Just the time to take the system apart and put it back together again. If there's a problem in the video cable then that shouldn't cost more than US$15-$20 or so (UK may be higher).

try with external monitor - if this will work, mainboard and videocard may be ok.
