390E and 390X auto turn off and upgrade

#1 Post by OMNIBUS » Sat Mar 01, 2008 8:01 am

Hello,
I would like to update my 2 thinkpad 390E and 390X after a period of no use because they had problems;
390E: the fan is activated when you turn on the PC but not after, during normal operationso it goes to overheating and then gets hot and freezes. I read "hardware maintence manual" must reset thermal sensor but I need the "Hardware Maintence Diskette "after research so that the file is called CEUTQ103.exe but not find it. I have already tried and found files ceukq110.exe and ceutb111.exe but do not recognize the system or the 390E or the 390x. somebody can help me find the file CE UTILITY DISKETTE CEUTQ103.exe for my 390E and 390X? Or you can give me a solution?

390X: after a few minutes (10-15) operation with the battery or with ac adapter, pc turn off itself and if I try to turn it back, or turns off immediately or turns off after a few minutes, why? Someone can help me resolve this problem or explain if there is a known cause?

Update: I would like to update if I can get them to work well with memory and larger hard drive, so that limits us soo and then what is the maximum memory and the largest hard drive that I can put on 390E? And the 390X?
I thank you all for help that you can give me!

Angelo, here is a link to the information on your 390E/X; Info.

The CE UTILITY DISKETTE CEUTQ103.exe is proprietary and isn't available for download. Have you tried thermal pads/grease on your processors/heatsinks? It sounds like that is all you need to get the heat issue in control.

Hello,
I know that the CE UTILITY DISKETTE is not downloadable officially like all disks CE but as I said I got 3, all downloaded from the network but not good for my PC and then hoped that someone could instead has it me .. maybe for other reasons .. and I hope that someone can still help having!
For what I say instead, the fan simply does not start when the power is on, even if being POST when and she feels good. I tried with PC doctor and gave me "fan=failed test".
HMM I read and I found my symptoms and causes .. and that should reset the sensor with HMD.
Thank you for the info .. very helpful :D !
I do not find models sold in italy that end with * 0 G but doesn't matter
However, there was no written the maximum size possible for the hard drive for the 390E and 390X?. and why the 390X after 10-15 min simply turn off without any symptoms :?: ?(the fan does work here :lol: )
I thank you all for infinitely help that you can give me!
Thanks Angelo
