OK, first of all, I checked that old toshiba drive and it is a MK2023GAS 5V/0.7A (not 1.1A/5V as I wrote before, sorry). This drive will not work with 600X/T23 for reasons I fail to fathom. I also checked the current/voltage ratings of the drives I have in the 600X/T23 now, and they both are (fairly recent) fujitsu drives with a 5V/0.6A rating.petek1st wrote:It is a toshiba MK2018GAS Rated at DC+5v 0.7A
Earlier, I popped in that toshiba drive again in the 600X and the bios "saw" it. I had booted from a linux live CD, I could not access the drive from it. I know that this a working drive since I can use it in an USB enclosure with my T60. I presumed that it was an issue with current rating since I got the fujitsu drifes working.
Now, I googled your part number and mine and they have almost similar specs. I also looked up the power specs of older 12.5mm/9.5mm hard drives and they are almost around the range we have, some are even higher.
So now, a new bunch of questions for you:
1. Were both the hard drives you tried made by toshiba? In either case, what are the ratings on them?
2. Since BIOS sees the drive(s), I am wondering if this is an issue with the MBR. What is the previous history of the HDDs? Did they have a linux installation by any chance?
