I have a Tp 600X running WIN2K and for some reason the internal modem is out or just not working. i don't use the modem must as i'm on a wireless internet setup. When i tried to use the modem this past weekend it was just not there i uninstallled and reinstalled the drivers and it still isn't showing up. is it just dead and i need to replace it or is there something else (software or a patch i can run) i'm missing.
I also have a older USR pcmcia modem but according to USR it won't work with Win2K but of course USR can't even indenitfy this modem. works fine on my 760CD but there isn't any modem I.D. to tell me what this modem is and the I.D. sticker isn't any help either. any help here as to how to I.D. this modem as well.?

Make sure the modem is enabled in your ThinkPad configuration utility.

This is a known problem and there is a patch you can run that enables your modem again. My modem did the same thing after installing latest AOL, but with the patch I was back in business. I can't think of the name of the patch or where to find it, and I thought there was a link for it on Bill's Thinkpads page but I couldn't find it. Look around here and in old forum. It is listed as a fix also for the TP 760 or 770. Good luck

ok i tried both fixes that i could find one was from Microsoft the other was from IBM and both didn't help, it was still dead but i thought about it btoday and decided to try something else and it worked.
I removed all my hardware and reset my BIOS (removed the battery) and replced everything and restarted the computer and my modem came up i guess it was a BIOS problem. connected to the internet awhile ago and i worked fine.
one quick question on the back under one of the covers was a card in the upper left hand corner what is this card? i couldn't find it in my manual.

Isn't that the mini-pci modem that's in these things? What's written on it?
