Wow, all the 600x owner doesn't experience this sympton? It is really getting annoying.
The only one that work with FN is F3,F4 and F7.
F2, F11, F12, PgUp, PgDn and Backspace does not work.
I"ve tried lastest BIOS.
Installed IBM Configuration Utility.
What am I missing?

The beeping on boot up is a different issue than the volume keys beeping, which again is a different issue than the missing Fn Keys.
Beep on boot:
I think this is controlled by your operating system and in Windows is found in one of the standard tabs in your Power control panel. I forget exactly, but I think you can tell it whether or not to issue power-related beeps, including the standard power-on beep. But you may disable the beep that you are supposed to get for low power if you disable it...not sure.
Volume Keys beeping when you press them:
That is by design. That way you can tell how loud you are raising or lowering the volume. I don't think you can mute this.
Missing Fn Keys:
Those keys are not missing in Windows 98, but only in XP. This is a known limitation of running XP on a 600 series machine. By "known" limitation, I mean that if you search the IBM/Lenovo site for your machine and information about installing/configuring XP, you can find a document that tells you that those Fn keys won't work in XP.

With my 600X i need to turn on mute pressing fn+space key and on the next boot it does not give the post beep.
The beep is normal anyway so there is not reason to worry about it.

Exactly there are fn functions that does not work under xp for example the fn+f3 to turn off the screen.

Thanks guys.
I gave up. I'll learn to live with it i guess.
The hot key didn't help. Some was already working.
I guess your right, maybe xp has it limitation.
My question is, is it only me with this sympton running xp with a 600x mhz ? I know there's gotta be more than 2 of you that own or has own one.

It will beep upon boot unless you have the volume completely muted. You can use ThinkPad configuration or some control panel to turn off the beeping when you change volume. I don't have Windows on mine now, so I can't tell you where it is.
Fn+F12 should work if you have "Enable hibernation" checked in the power settings.

NautTboy, here's my solution:
Install Configuration Utility:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4ZFRG3
Install On Screen Display:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4KZQL4
To disable to volume control and power control beeps, go the screen saver tab in Display Properties. There should be a button there for "Power."
This will bring the Power Options Properties. Under the Beeps/Alarms tab, you'll find the enable/disable selections. This should solve your beeping problems. I just did this on my TP600 right now. Worked like a charm (also worked on my 770X). As for the fn issues... I dunno
