Welcome to the forum, Durga!

According to this list, 0189 is the error code for:
IBM/Lenovo wrote:Invalid RFID configuration information area. The EEPROM checksum is not correct.
The solution: replace systemboard.

This worked for me on a R40 with the 0189 issue.

When the message pops up, hit escape to continue.

1. Download the IBM Hardware Maintenance Disk and create a floppy. The filename for version 1.75 is i7tm23us.exe. I found it at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... tm23us.exe

2. If you do not have a floppy drive on your laptop, then use nero to create a bootable CD from the files and boot sector of the floppy disk.

3. Boot your laptop from the CD, then choose the Assign UUID option.

This should do the trick for you.

Every year I like to check to see if this issue has been solved. I can say doing this with a slightly earlier version of the Maintenance Diskette did not help my 600E. If you are still following this thread, did it help you? Has anyone solved this problem?

I registered just to reply to this post. I am very much interested to know how this error can be solved. Some forums suggest board level hacking of the eeprom chip to solve this. I also was able to read on some posts that a disc recovery program can solve this. If you have the so called, recue disk for the TP600E, you can try it out and keep us posted if it did worked.

If anyone has a copy of the original TP600 bios.bin file, kindly send it to me I will be more than happy to try to resolve this.

This just worked for me.
using newer version of HMD on my beloved X200.

works now, no need to press Esc on start up anymore.
