Ibm 600E hardware problems...

#1 Post by aquasonic » Mon Apr 14, 2008 12:35 pm

Hello! I Recently bought 2 IBM 600Es for ~55$ (not bad at all). The previous owner thought they were dead (the one had post errors and the other one didnt seem to boot at all) so he sold them to me as parts.

With some googling though, i got the one with the errors to boot. I had to disable through bios the trackball in order to make it boot properly. The problem seems to be at the system board. i replaced the trackball but still had the same error. If i swap the small uper board, will the problem be fixed? Could i damage the mobo with a change like that?

Also the second one boots, however the screen button is destroyed, so i plugged it in a external and voila! :D But unfortunately i get into a password page. Is this the administrator or the system password? i don't know...

The funny thing is that the battery, cdrom and floppy are almost new... i can get 2 hours with a almost 10 year old battery!

i hope i explaind everything clearly...

Nick!

Should help with your second question. On replacing the trackpoint circuit board, shouldn't have an issue replacing it. The trouble might be finding one..... Sounds like you have at least one good machine if you swap parts around...... work on the other as parts become available.

That one was very useful! Thanks a lot :D
As for the trackball circuit, i mean the board that attaches directly to motherboard (with the power on buttons etc). But now that i think better about it... it has the monitor button broken so... :(

Again thanks a lot! :D

Aquasonic, I may have a spare board for you. I have a few 600's I'm parting out.

PM me if you're interested.

Joe

BTW: I'm not out to make a bundle off it.
