How much RAM can a 365ED have?

What's the biggest SO-DIMM I can put in this thing? The User's Guide says 4 or 16 Mb, but that was a long time ago. The local computer store has them up to 256Mb, but will that work?
Funny, I always thought SO-DIMM meant a low-wattage bulb...or someone who resembles one...

1 16M stick. Max is 24M total.

This doesn't make sense. The 365ED is two years newer than the 755CE and has more features. Both start with 8 Mb. Why would IBM downgrade the RAM?
Has anyone ever tried a 32 or 64 Mb stick?

Purely speculation here... the 755CE was a high-end model (700 series), whereas the 365ED was a low-end model (300 series, with a Cyrix processor). Maybe that's why? or or maybe there's a motherboard issue with the Cyrix chipset? Again, pure speculation. My 365X (Pentium 120) was advertised as 40MB max, and that's all it would take until the latest BIOS.
After your original post, I went onto kahlon.com to see what's offered for your 365ED. They do show a max of 24MB. These guys seem to have pretty accurate info, but if I were you, and you can get a 32MB stick cheaply, why not just try it? I've never hurt a Thinkpad putting in more memory than it could recognize.

Right you are. Most probably what will happen from previous experience is that EZ-Setup (BIOS) will only recognize 24M total.
It is a shame that nobody has a writen a Fortran edit on these ancient BIOS's to allow for more "goodies" but that is the charm - dealing with the limitations of older iron and what purposes it can serve. I personally just enjoy them for what they are, at least now I do. In my younger days I suppose I would have allowed myself to be feverishly frustrated by a limitation.
If it where mine I would slog Win 3.1 onto it and see how far I could take it from there. I wonder if BeOS would run on it....???? I think OS/2 Warp 4 probably would.

Would you believe the poor thing is running Windows 98?
I'm going to see if I can find a 64Mb stick an play with the dip switch settings on the memory board. There are 4 of them. All are off for 4 Mb, 2 is on for 16. What might the other 14 combinations do?
Is it possible to make Windows ignore or override the bios?
