Hi
Just want too tell,I take the chance and buy a cheap mini-pci,Like this
one Realtek with 8180 chip here is a link:
http://www.ccandc.com.tw/product/11b-wl-1402.htm an i work first
time without problem,No bios problem nothing :-) and then i buy a set
of antenne like the one on ebay for 15-40 dollars.
i even install IBM access wireless connect software and is work super :-)
I only have one problem,I dont have so much signal on the card around 50% most of the time??? But it dont loss the connection.
Dont know if the antenne is defekt? i put them in the screen and skrew
i together with the iron frame that hold the screen??
But still im happy:-)
So maybe it is the first wireless TP 600x in the world ??
Sorry for the bad english.

Do you shot any pictures as to how you did it - step by step? I would love to see it if you did happen to have done this - from the opening of the case to the closing of it and pictures of the screen while it is working!

I am the owner of a few 770's and have been interested in this mod for a while. I don't follow 600's (sorry but don't own any), so I have a few basic questions:

- Does the 600X have an internal mini-PCI slot or did you make your own? (If so, how?... needs lots of details.)

- Where did you get the wireless antenna? (Do you still have the Ebay link or any other info on it?) How is it connected to your mini-pci card? What size is your display?

My guess for your reception signal level question is in your antenna tuning. At 2.4 GHz, the wavelength is pretty small and therefore small changes in your wire length to the antenna may yield significant improvements. (You could also possibly make things worse, but the good thing is that you can from bad to good quickly.)

Thanks for any info that you can provide.

Not sure if attaching the antena to the metal frame around the dispay (if I understood things right) is the best way to go. What I've seen is little "flag" like pieces stuck to the antena ends....these flag shaped pieces then stick on the plastic (flat aprt) of the casing and do not extend to the metal frame. Try taking the antena ends off of the metal frame....maybe even attach small square pieces of tin foil to the ends of the antena (if they didn't come with such square pieces to begin with) and see if your reception increases. BTW, the little "flag" shaped pieces on the ends of the antena wires I'm talking about are made of plastic, but have small wires running though out the plastic squares....sort of looks like those small cell phone range extenders you stick to the back of cell phones....maybe these will work too....they are very cheap these days.

Hi All
First of all,No i did t shot picture of it,Want too be sure if it was working :-)
But i can take when it is running wireless and show the thinkpad access
connection,But i dont know where too put the picture???
And next quistion,Yes 600x has a mini pci slot and it is originel a telefon
modem, form factory,And i see other try and told that the card was
too big? Dont know if this one from Realtek is smaller,But i fit s in the port
with no problem,Even lots of place for the antenna
Here is a link of antenna that look like the one i use.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 99026&rd=1
And after my last post i take it apart again,After i look in the different
Thinkpad hardware manual,And put the antenna like originael, grey antenne is left, and the black antenna is black and the shall be put in
the wlan card as,Grey is MAIN conect and black is AUX conect.
And my sinal get a littel better? Betwen now from 50& too 75 %,
Dont know why ,it can t make 100% sinal??? but still it super dont
drop the connection :P
And from the picture in the different ivm hardware manual s the antenne
shall be skrew too the iron hings so it is rigth.
but i take some of the metal of the antenna too make it fit in the screen
not too much space  but work it out the second time,Better now
than from thefirst post.
Taht all for now.

Does anyone know if the 770 series (especially X or Z) have a mini-pci for their internal modem?

The 2645-9FU is a PIII 650MHz machine (unless you've upgraded the processor?) and the Speedstep Applet in the 600X doesn't care whether the battery is installed or not.

Thanks for the picture, the WiFi upgrade for the 600X is on my list of things to do, already have all of the parts.

He did write that he upgraded to 800MHz, just like my 600X.

I was inspired and bought an Intel 2200BG card, but haven't installed it yet. Maybe tomorrow.

The SpeedStep applet is not supported in XP, as XP handles SpeedStep on its own (sometimes rather annoyingly and always secretly).

Hi

Yes i have upgraded too 800mhz,But my battery died for not so long
ago,and since it allways take the 650mhz speed,But now with the
new internal wireless,I plan too buy a new one,Becaues i like too
have a new laptop with this mod :-).

Whizkid
I am sorry,But i dont think that the Intel 2200Bg will work,Because it
is for the new Intel Centrion Mobile Technology and it is use the cpu
or chipset in the motherboard too work,Not 100% sure but dont exspekt
too much :-)
The card i have is a complet wlan card,And it is only missing the antenne.
The intel use the board or cpu too work :-(. i think???
