i1300 and HDD issue

#1 Post by jronald » Mon May 05, 2008 6:28 pm

OK
Cobbling together a couple of 1171-8XU's
PITA to load Winblows 2k on....
Loaded on to a T22 then swapped the hard drive after the the 2nd, your computer will now reboot. Tried 3 HDDs, one works fine in either systems (i1300 X 2, T22 or T23) and boots normally. The other 2 work fine in the T's but will not boot in the i1300's.
Curser hangs about 1/5th down the screen.
Pop it out and into ANYTHING else it boot up fine, looks for drivers and keeps on going.
Im at my wits end

Try partitioning and formatting the drive in the i1300. Make it DOS bootable. THEN move it into another machine and see if you can use it. If so, copy the installation folder (i386?) onto the CD.

Put it back in the i1300, boot to DOS and run i386\setup.

Your iSeries might have an odd hard drive controller (or some other driver) that is included in Win98SE but is not included in the base W2K. I suppose it depends on your installation medium. I've only used the OEM version of W2K, so it won't even do an upgrade install.
