600: strange curve in keyboard bezel

#1 Post by schnitzelcore » Wed May 28, 2008 7:04 am

This is a bit difficult to explain, but: if you look at the keyboard bezel, the part between the keys and the screen. Going from the middle to the left you have: some leds, the little sign saying '600', a screwhole with cover, the Thinkpad logo, the 'lid closed' switch.
Going from the middle to the left this bezel has an ever so small but definite upward curve on my 600, maybe one or two millimetres (screen is still clear). I also have a 600x which does not have this problem.
I've taken off the keyboard and bezel to take a look at the little pcb that's underneath, thinking it must be out of place, causing the 'lift'. It seems to be placed perfectly though. There's only two things I think could be causing the misplacement:
- The cable connecting the keyboard, folded underneath, is somehow not folding the right way: is there a trick to get this right? Believe me, I've tried!
- One of the parts that keeps the pcb in place is just off. Is this possible?

Edit: it's the keyboard cable coming off the keyboard of course, mistakenly wrote 'tft cable'.

I have a few of these and definitely there is a slight "hump". I never noticed if it was there prior to disassembly of an unopened lappy, but nonetheless they are there now. I do think it is the lcd connection is causing this. The bend in the ribbon acts sort of like a spring which causes the "hump".

Thank you for confirming that. Just doublechecked the hardware maintenance manual and there are no notes/ remarks about how to place this cable.

I'm sorry, It's not the lcd cable it's the keyboard cable. These cables are not replaceable though.
