Did they modify that 850MHz cpu to get it to work? (There is a pic of an 850MHz cou further down the page)

What I also like about this, is that someone apparently modified the case to get the antenna for the wireless card to fit into the LCD casing. I might be tempted to try that mod to the case...

That mod really caught my eye. Its a very elegant solution to the antenna problem.

Both the CPU and the wifi mods look intriguing to me. It looks like there is some confusion in the thread about how the CPU mod was done. It shows an MMC 850, but there is some mention of a BGA 1Gig chip as well. Maybe somebody managed to replace the actual CPU chip on an MMC-2 board...(!!)...(?) The fact that I can't speak any Japanese [correction: Chinese] only increases my confusion!!

If you are curious, you can try putting the pages through an online translator. Here is one example of what comes up:

The thread is in Chinese, not Japanese. They did replace a 850 CPU with an MMC2-PIII 1GB CPU.

And do they give any kind of intel spec nbr for a MMC2-PIII 1GB CPU? I aways thought 850 was the fastest in this form factor.

I don't understand how they did the wifi mod ... I would love to have just the internal wifi mod on my 600X, I am very happy with the 650 MHz speed.

Ooops. Thanks for the correction.

I think they're using a dremel, antenna(s), bezel from other notebook (or stickers from TP 3x ?)... and a littlebit time.

MMC-2/1000mhz wasn't build from Intel. Maybe they've changed the processor. modified fsb or processorclock.

Mainly guessing here, based on translations of the pages and on what the photos show, but I think they are claiming to have replaced the CPU chip itself on the MMC-2 board by using some kind of BGA CPU in its place. So, they are still using an MMC-2 board, but have modified it by replacing the CPU. It is unclear to me if they modified the PIII 850 board that is shown in one of the photos, or if they actually modified a PIII 750 board that is mentioned in the second thread referenced in the main thread. It also seems possible to me that it is someone just playing a little joke, using Photoshop to show a 1000MHz CPU on their 600E. But I'm inclined to think that it is serious, given the quality look of the wifi antenna mod that appears to have been done on the same machine.
