Hello again to all!

TP770 9548-30U seems to be running fine with Win98 after a nice, fresh install. Updated to the latest BIOS. Installed the unofficial 98SE service pack. Waiting on a Win98-compatible wireless LAN card and a DVD RAM card...

It has an MMC-1 233 proc and 288Mb of RAM (228.8Mb reported as usable). A couple of questions:

-Can I assume the fastest processor I can get for it is a PII 400 MMC-1?

-Can the unit recognize/use more than 2x128Mb PC100 sticks of RAM? I wasn't sure if there was an undocumented higher RAM limit...

It's not bad the way it is but more is better I always say!

You have started a new thread to answers questions asked in a previous thread... there will be some pennance due to the moderators...

I own two 770's [now at school letting my students use them), so I can give you some help.

On the processor... I haven't heard too much about using the 400 MHz MMC-1 processor because I think most people just jump to a 700X or 770Z and reuse all their accessories and drives. (I did.) A search will hopefully get you some better answers, but I might also interpret this as "no news is good news" because someone would be complaining about it and asking for help.

On the memory... The short answer is to your questions is to use the search function. 770's are VERY particular about what type of memory that they use. They came with PC-66, low density memory and this works best for maximum capacity configurations. Good luck finding it. This will also allow you to make use of the other half of the first bank of your memory. (IIRC, you have internal memory on the motherboard and two banks of other memory in slots on the back. You are only using 1/2 of one of the memory SIMMS in the back slot because of your choice of memory. On other 770 models... not sure about yours... it is possible to replace the motherboard memory to really max it out. SEARCH.) You have been fortunate in that the PC-100 memory did not lock up your 770.

I am pretty sure 2x128MB was the max limit (288MB including the onboard 32mb) of the 770. But PC100 works fine, at least in mine.
