TP770 DVD drive query

#1 Post by landsmarra » Thu Jun 19, 2008 11:36 am

Any idea if a Toshiba SD-C2302 DVD drive from an A31 would fit/work in the drive bay of TP770 in replacement of the stock SD-C2002?

Thanks!

Here's an educated guess, but I can't say for sure.

First, I think you may run in to problems finding ANY drive that will fit into your current "caddy". I opened up a bunch of different 770 series caddies a couple years ago and I found that of the three different 770 series drives I had, only the caddy from a M a t s u s h i t a SR-8171-L DVD Drive was likely to allow me to put in a relatively new replacement drive.

As for the SD-C2302 Toshiba drive, I think that drive is a pretty standard drive that has the same size and screw-hole placements, and front bezel connections as a good list of earlier Toshiba drives. However, the list of drives that use the same bezel does not include the Toshiba SD-C2002. That doesn't mean that the rest of the drive won't fit; it just means that if it does fit, then you may have to modify the bezel to make it work with your 770.

When I was upgrading my 770Z, I replaced a M a t s u s h i t a SR-8171-L drive with a Panasonic UJDA-750 CD-RW/DVD drive. I've posted some pictures and additional details about this replacement.

OK, so I'd take the bare Pana drive, put it in the 770 caddy and work some magic to get the bezel to fit and that's it? Sounds easy! I assume this is the drive:

Thanks so much for the info!
