No network connectivity on reboot with XP on my 600X

...sigh. :( So, I upgraded to Windows XP on my 600X from Windows 2000. It recognized my Xircom 10/100 network card instantly and auto configured. All was great... till I rebooted. When I rebooted, I got no link light and no network connectivity at all! I checked the network settings and the card showed that it was working properly and TCP/IP was configured properly. So I decided to uninstall the card and restart XP so as to have XP reinstall it. THAT WORKED!!!! ....till I rebooted again. ...sigh. I lost all connectivity again and I had to keep uninstalling the card and rebooting in order for it to work.

So, since I didn't mind wiping the hard drive and starting fresh, I decided to simply do a clean install of Windows XP. But same problem unfortunately. It works the first time and when I reboot it no longer works.

Anyone know what this is due to??? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanx in advance.

You might want to try booting with the PC Card out of the computer, then putting it in when the computer has booted.

I had a modem running in Windows 98 that did the same thing. The workaround was booting without the modem in place, then plugging it in when the computer had started. Worked every time.

Hope this helps.

Well, I went ahead and tried that and it does work... but only one time. In other words I started the system without the PC Card installed and I plugged it in when the system booted. It worked. I rebooted with the card in and encountered the same problem. Perhaps you're suggesting that I unplug the card everytime I want to restart the computer and then plug it in after the system boots up. I am, however, looking for a solution where I never have to remove the card. It worked perfectly under Windows 2000, so I am confident it can also work perfectly under XP.

I checked the System Event Viewer log and I get an error that says, "Adapter interrupts not functioning properly." I checked the IRQ setting for the adapter, but there are no conflicts. I changed it from IRQ port 7 to IRQ port 5 and still have the issue.

I don't know if this info will help anyone who is trying to figure this out, but when it does work, I get a link light right before the Windows XP splash screen disappears (during boot process). When it dosen't work there is a brief pause right before the XP splash screen disappears, but no link light comes on. I feel like it has something to do with a service not starting, but the Event log gives no evidence of this. Frustration builds.

Thanx so much for your input!

I bought a D-Link card and it did the same thing so I returned it and got a usb network adaptor.
Well, It did the same thing also...Long story short,
I ended up doing this:

1.double click Internet Explorer icon, click file button, make sure work offline does not have a check beside it.If it does, click it then close IE.

2.right click Internet Explorer icon, click properties, click the Connections tab.Highlight my dial up connection(I only have 1),click settings button, make sure that Automaticly Detect Settings is checked, click OK.
Pick Never Dial a Connection right below the connections window.
Then click the LAN Settings button, make sure that Automaticly Detect Settings is NOT checked, click OK.Then click OK on the Internet Properties Dialog box.

Set your TCP/IP up like you want it.
Then try to connect to the network, a box might come up with work offline and try again buttons, if so pick try again.

It worked for me,good luck.

Thanks so much for your contribution, but this did not work for me unfortunately. :( I tried it, but same outcome. :(
