PCMCIA slot

There are 2 slot on my thinkpad. The top one is smaller than the bottom. What are they used for?
240x, 500Mhz 192mb
390x, 300Mhz 128mb, bad kb.
600x, 500Mhz 256mb
i1400 2621 433Mhz 256mb
770x, 300Mhz 128mb

Can you be more specific as to which machine you are talking about?

I think the answer though is that one is a Type II slot and the other is a Type III slot. See this info: http://www.pcmcia.org/faq.htm#types
