I have fixed up an i1400, system cleaned up and new battery fitted. It's well suited to using in my agricultural work with it's inbuilt serial port and solid build.
Unfortunately I went the last yard and fitted a new RTC lithium cell, that the CMOS was complaining about being low.
Now the PC wants a startup password. I have no idea what the previous owner might have used. This is not the normal user-set password which has a key icon - it shows a screen-looking icon.
I found in the Lenovo and the IBM sites the hardware manual "37l5192" which says to change mainboard switch 2 of SW2 to On, which disables power-on password. Unfortunately the model I have is not the more common 411 - it's a model 412 which only has one 4-way switch unit labelled SW3, not in the matching hardware list and apparently no manual for this mainboard is available.
I'm not keen to run through all permutations of switch settings in case something worse happens.
Does anyone have a clue as to what the default factory password might be, or a few paragraphs from a manual for the 412 model?
Thanks,
Kevin.
