hello, i know this topic has been brought up before, but i was wondering how useful a mini pci wireless card would be. I have a 650 mhz 600x (2645-8eu i upgraded it about a year ago with the cpu from a 5fu with a bad ide connection) and both cardbus slots are in use so im trying to figure out the best route for an internal antenna. Im not a big fan of the externals even though i know they do get better range and the usb port(when working) is usually in use. is there anything i can do to make an internal antenna function as well as a pcmcias or at least close?. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The easiest way... follow the old cable from modem and find a place near the speakers. the keyboardbezel (underside) is electrically conducting - don't forget: you have to remove these coating around antennaarea (use something like a dremel).
But... the keyboardbezel may be later not so easy removeable from lower case if your antennacables are short.
My 600X went wireless!

I just installed an Intel PRO 2100 and antenna (intenal) scavenged from a DELL with no hope of ever computing again.
I ran the antenna wires through the same access route the modem wires used, around the CARDBUS slots (wires under the door when card inserted), up through the hinge/cover area on the right, and up behind the screen.
It works pretty good, and NetStumbler found 2 WiFi spots I didn't know were there with any other computer/WiFi combination I had until now.
I'm sitting underground in the basement about a foot below the grass, and I get a low signal from my neighbor 2 houses down. Upstairs, that signal is good, and I see a total of 4 networks.
I can live with that, but I do want to tweak the placement a bit to see if I can improve more.
