The mobo on my 600e recently decided to give up.I managed to buy a stripped 600 from ebay.I transferred my memmory and HD from the e to the 600.The problem is that I cannot get it to boot now.how can I get into my bios or setup to get it to read my win xp disk to repair it or is tere something i am missing?Any and all help will be appreciated. If it helps I get as far as the screen where it asks to choose to start windows normaly. As soon as I click it starts to boot then the comp restarts.

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
What is most likely happening is that the installation of Windows on your hard drive is getting confused with the "new" hardware it is seeing on the 600 motherboard. I know that at least the graphics controller is different between the two (NeoMagic 128XD on the 600 and a NeoMagic 256AV on the 600E). You might be able to boot the drive using Safe Mode and then install video drivers for the 128XD but I've never tried doing this before. Hang around and somebody else may have a better answer.

Hold F1 as you turn on the machine. That will allow you to change the boot order so you can boot from a CD.
I'd suggest you boot an XP installation disc and do a repair install, or better yet, boot a LiveCD, backup your important data to another machine or external hard drive and do a clean install.

still no luck.It wont let me load my xp or 98 disks.I may have to spend more money I dont have to buy the correct mobo.I tried holding down the f1 key and I set it to start off the cd but it went to a screen with a floppy drive.I have been trying everything to get it to work.

What happens when you boot the Win98 CD?
How about the WinXP CD?
What happens when you get into the BIOS to change the boot order? Can you set the boot order? When does the floppy appear?

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back.Until I get my laptop fixed I have to use a public comp.I try to get it to recognize the cds but it will not try to boot either disk.I get the floppy image when I remove the hd from the startup sequence.I have a used 600e mobo coming from a ebey win(this time I verified).I hope that will take care of my problem. If not then it must be my hd even though the bios test says its fine.I start school in a few months and need it working for my school work.If anyone has any spare parts they would like to donate I would really apreciate it.My financial situation makes it near imposible to get ahead to buy the parts I have already purchased. That is why I am going back to school at my age
