Hello,

I was just given a thinkpad type 1171-4mu and according to the manual, it says I can only upgrade the memory with a 128 Meg chip.

Is there anyway to put in a 256meg.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks.

It will support 256mb.
The PC133 chip from my T23 works just fine in both of my iSeries 1300.
With the 64 onboard and the 256 it runs XP slow, but tolerable.
2kPro flies at that memory level.

The IBM part number is 26P7988

You might need to update your BIOS for the RAM to work. You'd have to do that before you install, of course.

FYI upon bios upgrade, make sure what version you have before upgrade so you can go back if problems occurs.

I had bad experience with battery with bios upgrade.
