570 Ultrabay CD-ROM headscratcher...

I thought that 600e bay modules and 570 Ultradock bay modules were identical...however, a Toshiba that worked beautifully in my 600e won't fit the 570 Ultradock.

Is there a difference between modules for the 570 Ultrabay and 600e modules?

Did you remove the spacer from the bottom of the drive?

On SOME of the 600 drives the caddy has a removable spacer which is the part you push on to remove the drive from the computer.
On the removable ones there is one small screw to remove and the spacer slides off. then it will fit a 570.
I have also seen some 600 cdroms with caddies that are all one piece and you cannot remove the spacer.

OK, does this spacer have a hook on it? Or am I thinking about something else?

Yep, that's it. Lay the drive on a flat surface with the hook side up and the hook pointing away from you.

On the left hand margin of the piece with the hook on it there's a single screw (in fact it's the only screw visible on the bottom of the drive). Remove it.

Now place your thumbs on the plastic piece that you took the screw out of and push towards the rear of the drive, the plastic piece will slide free of the drive.

The drive will now fit your 570 Ultrabase.
