Ok so i have a thinkpad 600( the same one in my sig) model 2645 5 gig hd, windows 2000 prof. Sometimes in mid way of using it the screen just goes white( does it maybe 1 out of 20 times), My assumptions is either inverter, Mobo or screen but which one is it. Ive gone through and checked everything, all checked ok. Suggestions?? also my tp 600 is very outdated, would it be worth through in a 600x mobo and cpu and all that goos stuff or should i leave it alone and use it when i need a back up laptop?

Screen going all white will not be the inverter. Mostly likely it is a loose connection between the motherboard and the back of the LCD panel. This involves the ribbon cable and where it plugs in at both ends (back of LCD panel and the motherboard). Least likely (but still possible) would be a bad connection of the graphics chip to the motherboard. If moving the lid back and forth clears up the problem, then I'd check/replace the ribbon cable.

Can't really throw in a 600X motherboard into the bottom of a 600 (or 600E). The problem is that the 600X's MiniPCI slot won't have an opening in the 600's base. Not to mention a difference in the right side panel where the audio jacks are. There's a least a couple of threads here that talk about this topic.

I'd vote for keeping the 600 as a spare and getting a 600X, or if you can swing it, something along the lines of a T21 or T22 (and taking a chance with the Blink of Death) or an X21. This is assuming that you already have some PC100 memory in your 600. If so, then you could at least use them in those systems I just mentioned. However, if you only have PC66 modules, then you might as well move up to a T23 or X22. Those take PC133 memory but they also max out at 800Mhz (X22) and 1.2Ghz (T23); quite a bit of difference than your 600.

Hmmm... just noticed that your .sig mentions 160MB for the 600. If that's still true, then your 128MB worth of module(s) won't go far inside any PC100 system. The 600X tops out at 576MB (2 x 256MB + 64MB onboard), the T2's at 512MB (2 x 256MB) and 384MB for the X21 (assuming 128MB onboard + a single 256MB module). Stepping up to the PC133 systems, a T23 will go to 1024MB and the X22, 640MB.
