I purchased a 128mb memory module from ebay for my friend's Thinkpad 240. Supposedly, the maximum memory is 192mb: 64K base + 128 expansion. The seller sent me a 256mb samsung module rather than the 128mb module. I was very surprised when the system recognized the 256mb module + 64mb base = 320 mb. Memory test worked fine, and system seems very stable. The information saying that 192mb is the max for the 240 is obviously wrong. Thoughts?

The 256m module should work fine. 192mb is listed as the max because 256m modules were not available when the 240 was being made.

Well, 99% stable, as I have learned. My Celeron 300/TP240 runs on 320MB as well, but it often freezes coming out of suspends in Win2KSP4 with a problem on the video chipset. I would say that it is reliable, runs like a speed demon, BUT you would have to live with occasional freezes.

Hi,

I have been looking around for memory modules for my 240 with the specs as:256MB, PC100,SDRAM, SODIMM, 144pin, 16x8 double sided, and found several from IBM mainly for TP390X, some from Kingston model TP390X...and finally decided for a Samsung M464S3323CN0-L1L that I got from ebay. I have installed it and is working without any problems.

Cheers!
