Windows 98 audio driver for 365 ?
Windows 98 audio driver for 365 ?
I have gotten hold of Thinkpad 365.
The IBM/Lenovo website shows no audio drivers for it for Windows 98.
Is it because I don't need one, or that there isn't one?

Let me see if I can unbury my 365, and see if I even have an OS on it...ieee488 wrote:I have gotten hold of Thinkpad 365.

Judging by your user name, I'd say I'm not the only one who remembers the good old days!
What computer do you use ieee 488 on?
I wouldn't even *use* Windows 98 on a 365. I tried it once, and it was too slow to use. It *might* be useable if you get a 133 Mhz Pentium Overdrive, but I would keep a '95 or NT4(???) CD around, and expect to need it.
The hard drive limit is 8 gig, so if NT4 does work well, it would be a good idea to to have it and 95 installed, since NT4 with SP6a will work with ie6, and 95 should work with games, etc, if you need it.
NT4 may require more than 20 Mb RAM - the 365's limit - so that might be pretty slow too.
If you do get stuck with '95, try Netscape family web browsers, and if the up to date versions are not '95 compatable, the last version of Opera definitely is.

My 365x is alive and well and running WIN98SE. It's fairly slow, but it does work.
I don't recall loading a special audio driver, so I suspect that WIN98SE has a suitable driver built in. If you can't get your audio to work, post again and I will take my 365x out and see what driver(s) it is using.

TP360 • TP365x • i1452 • TP T42 • Intellistation Z Pro
Thank you for your offer.
It turns out that the Thinkpad I bought on eBay is not a 365, but a 390E. Yippee!!! The owner was mistaken. At least this is something I can use.
Unfortunately, the CD-ROM drive appears to be shot, so I am trying to find a small screwdriver so that I can remove my spare TP600 CD drive from it's hardware and use it in this 390E. For some reason, the screws don't want to budge in the TP600 CD assembly.
