TP600 not accepting DC input

#1 Post by Tim » Mon Jan 03, 2005 7:04 pm

Second go at posting this - I think I pressed the wrong key first time round...

My daughter's Thinkpad 600 2645 is not accepting DC input from the AC adaptor. Consequently the battery is flat, although it has sufficient charge to get partway through boot up.

It's out of warranty and is here in the UK., but was purchased second hand in the USA.

The AC adaptor checks out OK, the DC input socket has continuity to the system board. There is continuity between the DC negative and the negative pin of the battery connector. I can measure a good DC voltage on the "downstream" of the input fuse adjacent to DC socket, suggesting the solder connection is OK.

The IBM FRU manual (09n1033) is unclear on where the DC charging function is. The IBM partlook up website suggests that subboard 05K3561 TIGERSHARK DC-DC CARD is the offending part.

Can anyone confirm this as I don't want to buy a new one unnecessarily. Alternatively are there any other causes of the problem? I've checked all the fuses out on the system board and they're all OK.

Thanks in advance.

Does it charge with the battery removed?

No, if the battery is removed and the DC connected nothing goes at all.
