On-Off Backlight

I've got an old 600E and the screen is driving me nuts. It wakes up by blinking, as if I had a switch and was flipping it off and on rapidly. Problem is, after about a dozen cycles it simply turns off (if you hold it just right you realize the page is up but the backlight's off). Closing/opening the lid starts the cycle again, and eventually the backlight flips to its "on" mode and returns to normal...until it powers down, after which the whole sorry cycle begins anew. Is there a fix?

Also, I'm looking for a slide-in wi-fi card to replace the Xircom ethernet plugin it now has.

Thanks.

Bad backlight (CCFL) or inverter.

I agree with Harry. The inverter is the cheapest and easiest option, so I recommend trying that first...

The Hardware Maintenance Manual will tell you how.

That's a PCMCIA card.

Which one to get depends on what OS you have running.

Unless you are running Windows 98SE or older, any one which has the features you want should work.
