701C running on Cell Phone batteries

#1 Post by TomKroscavage » Fri Oct 10, 2008 2:42 am

I just started my 701C with three BL-2Cs and three BL-5Cs. These are old Nokia cell phone batteries I had around the house. The batteries were charged with my 701C. I've ordered nine Bl-6Cs if I can fit them into the old battery case it should last a few hours. I think.

Three BL-5Cs (3.7v) in series lasted about thirty seconds. Six Bl-5C, 3 in series 2 in parallel (11.1v) lasted five minutes, but the battery miser says it has four hours of time remaining. I think I need to raise the voltage to 14.8v 8 BL-6Cs I think will do the trick.

Does anyone know how a thinkpad determinds how much battery time is remaining?

Have a look at this site, scroll down to the bottom and see how you can easily make a perfect battery for this machine.

I wanted to try Li-Ion batteries.

Never tried it myself, but I've read somewhere that using Li-ion batteries in a charger designed for anything else is a bad idea. Something about how they charge differently.
