Compare 1161 and 240X

#1 Post by NautTboy » Fri Oct 10, 2008 10:21 pm

Why is my 240X 500mhz 192mb faster
than my 1161 700mhz 192mb?

Both with XP PRO SP0

Tried loading ME on 700mhz, still slower
than the 500mhz 240X.
240x, 500Mhz 192mb
390x, 300Mhz 128mb, bad kb.
600x, 500Mhz 256mb

I'd think the iSeries would be faster. The Celeron 700 only has 128kb L2 cache but seeing as the bus speed and RAM configurations are the same, the extra 200mhz should make up for the 240X's edge in L2 cache. It could possibly be the hard drive, extra software and/or drivers you have loaded.

There could also be things here and there that just seem to make it faster. I know my desktop computer which has 384mhz RAM and a Pentium III 1ghz boots Windows XP noticeably faster than my T42 but once in, my T42 runs circles around the desktop.
ThinkPad T60: 2GHZ CD T2500, 3gb RAM, 14.1" XGA, 60gb 7k100, Win 7 Ult
Latitude E7250: i5 5300U 2.3ghz, 12gb RAM, 12" 1080p touch, 256gb SSD, Win 10

Are they both 4200rpm drives? Could the iSeries hard drive be failing?

Yea they are both 4200rpm.

I want try the Low Density 256mb ram for the 1161 and ordered one from Fleebay. Either it didn't work or it's bad RAM. I try it on my other TP i1400 2621 and didn't work either, so must be bad ram.

Thanks guy, will keep on search for reason.
