iseries,dvd kills the HD ?

iseries 1171..
replaced the cd drive with a cd/dvd and now bios wont see either the hd or the dvd.
tried the jumpers on the hard drive with no luck,toshiba brand.
anybody solve this one before ??

Have you checked the jumper on the DVD drive? Make sure it is set the same as the CD drive you took out.

i have never seen a jumper on a laptop cd/dvd drive,,there is none visible..have to take it apart ?

I'm holding a i series drive in my hand right now, and their are no "jumpers" as such, but there are two indentations on the bottom edge of the back of the drive. I believe the position of that indentation determines the jumper setting. Probably a pin in the drive bay that should be protruding into that recess is being compressed and changing the setting. Make sure your new drive has a indentation in exactly the same spot.
