Hi folks ... thinking to trying to hack a mini-PCI wired ethernet card into a 570E (which has mini-PCI 56k modem). The RJ11 modem jack socket looks fairly similar in layout (but not size) to a RJ45 - just wondering if anyone's gone down this road before in a 570E (or 600 or whatever) ...

TIA.

Hmmm - I think, wired LAN is not sooo interesting and the combi-cards with bluetooth or something else doesn't work in the old machines (...without BIOS support).

Isn't it smarter to buy a USB 2.0 MiniPCI-card, an USB-to-LAN-adapter, a USB 2.0-Bluetooth-adapter (and/or other USB hardware), kill an old mouse and get the wire, make the iron hot and build in...?

Well - its a good deal more _useful_ than a [censored] 56k modem :-)
I would quite like to have as much "standard" stuff internally as possible ... I'm not interested in bluetooth .... keeps the cardbus slots free for usb2, wlan etc. I have an old USR 11b card thats "flat" i.e. doesn't stop you using the top slot when installed in the bottom one .... trouble is it doesn't WPA with win2k ... and I can't install win xp because I can't update the BIOS on the 570E - which is because I don't a working battery :-/ Doooooh .....

BUT - I still like this 570E somehow :-)

hacking mPCI USB2 and LAN adapter (yeah I read your hack :-) ) is a bit unnecessary for me really. Good hack though :-)
