760EL Hard Drive Enclosure?

Hi:

Does anyone know if any external hard drive enclosures are made to accept the hard drives for these old thinkpads? I'd like to use a spare 2.1 GB drive in this manner if at all possible. Since these drives are housed in caddies, I am not sure as to their true dimensions, and I hesitate to open it up to find out. Thanks.

The HD inside the caddy is a standard 2.5" HD with a standard IDE connecter. No problem connecting it to an external enclosure once you take it out of the caddy.

Regards,

James

Jim:

Thanks for the answer to my question. Any hints on removing the HDD from the caddie? I recall making a mess of things when I attempted to recycle a caddie on a trashed HDD some years back. I appreciate your advice/assistance. Thanks again.

To open a 760 or 765 caddy, first, peel up the label covering the caddy so it is not on the plastic sides, next, unscrew the two screws located under the label at the top on both sides of the blue "push here" box, then gently try to slip and slide the plastic away from the metal, then simply disconnect the hard drive from the ribbon cable. More detailed instructions are listed in the hardware maintenece manual which can be downloaded from IBM's support website.

Thanks for the help. I'm sure I'll be able to remove the caddie now.
