It turns out that I have 3 600's lying around. 1 600X, 1 600E and 1 600.

They all seem to fucntion properly, minus the operating systems which have been erased.

Is there any thing useful I can do with theese computers, such as experimenting with different operating systems?

Also if i were to sell these for parts or as a whole, how much could i get.

Offer them up for sale (whole) here in the "For Sale'" section. These are good computers and in demand because they probably have the best keyboards made on a ThinkPad. Look on eBay and you'll get an idea as to what they are worth. My suggestion is to sell them for a little less here, especially since they have no O.S. But, if you want to load an O.S., Win2000 Pro is the sweetspot for any of these three if the memory is 256MB or more. If 128MB or less, then Win98SE. Good luck! BTW, I have the Win98 Recovery disc for these. You can PM me if you want it.

Sorry, last post is mine, forgot to login.

If you get rid of them, I could use one. What would you be willing to let go of your 600X for?

If you don't get rid of the ThinkPads, what you could do is buy wireless cards for them, get a wireless router, and if your home computer is set up with Windows XP, put the remote desktop client on the ThinkPads and then you'll have some cheap terminals to use your desktop anywhere in your house. You can also use them as a glorified sterio system if paired with nice speakers and some other stuff, that's what I do with my 760 when I'm not travelling and need the good battery life.

If you have a wife and/or kids, give the wife one ThinkPad and the kids another, keep one for yourself and see how much quiter road trips are.

I would also be interested in one of the 600s.

All of those machines were sold with an OS, and the 600X was sold with an OS license sticker.

IMO, any PIII can run XP just fine. My house has two 600X's that are used every day. One's been upgraded to 800MHz (and internal WiFi), but the other is at the stock 650. Both now have 5400RPM drives and 320MB RAM, and XP Pro runs just fine.

Linux will run on any of your 600's, with the expected performance of their CPU's, hard drives and memory of each machine.

eBay is a great place to get prices. Be sure to check for the prices of closed auctions. You may get more total money by selling parts, but it's a lot more work. (But let me know if you're selling RAM from the 600X!)
