560x.... do these have speakers? And hard drive upgrade q
560x.... do these have speakers? And hard drive upgrade q
I have installed the drivers and messed around for a while, and I can't get any sound to emit from either a built in speaker or the headphone jack. I installed the drivers and the computer acts as if it has sound going and all the volume controls are set correctly. What do I need to do?
Also, I have seen hard drive upgrades with sizes like 6, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 60, will they actually work in my old thinkpad?
Thanks a lot

Re: 560x.... do these have speakers? And hard drive upgrade
or from somewhere else? What OS do you have? What is the type number of your 560X (something like this 2640-4YE)?

yep I installed the audio drivers from ibm's site, for the "Cirrus Crystal Sound Hardware" or something.
I am running windows 98
Type: 2640-70U
I just found out that the headphone jack is loose from the motherboard, I don't know if that would effect the speaker (im assuming its the mic looking thing to the right of the "560x") I am probably gonna take it apart and re-solder the jack back onto the motherboard.
If you need any other information let me know

This is what IBM site says about installing the audio driver after a fresh Windows 98 install:
Installing Audio device driver for Windows 98 - applies to 560X only (2 mins). Although the Native audio driver functions under Windows 98 it is necessary to follow the procedure below to ensure full functionality.
To install the driver, please follow the instructions provided below:
Start Windows 98.
Extract the drivers to the hard disk, or if you are using Diskette Factory create the Audio Features diskette. If using floppy disk, insert the Audio Features Diskette for Windows 95/98 into the diskette drive.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type A:\SETUP if using floppy disk, or C:\DRIVERS\XXXXX\SETUP if the drivers were extracted to the hard disk (where xxxxx is the directory the drivers were extracted to), and click OK .
Click the Uninstall Crystal Drivers button at the pop-up window. (Do not click the Install Driver button.)
Follow the instructions on the screen.
When you are prompted to restart the computer, remove any diskette from the diskette drive and restart the computer.
When the computer prompts you to install the manufacturer's diskette during the startup of Windows 98, type A:\ or C:\DRIVERS\XXXXX , depending on the location of the drivers.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
If it's still not working, then you might be right and there is something wrong with the hardware part.
