The right hard drive to buy

Hi

On my 600x pent 111 650mz l was thinking that it would be a lot easier to buy a new hard drive then reformat my computer.

I don't know how to reformat or play with particions and etc.

On ebay they are cheap enough and there is nothing on my computer that l really need. And l will get rid of all of the whatevers like malware, registry problems virius's etc.

Can l buy a used hard drive and do they come wiped? Or should l just buy a new one and which one should l buy.

l believe it is IDE 5400rpm

What can you suggest? This is not my main laptop.

I suggest posting a WTB ad in the forum's Marketplace, for a sheer peace of mind that you'll get what you pay for.

And yes, you can install any PATA/IDE laptop drive, 40GB/5400 will do just fine.

For an impressive speed increase, buy a 7200 RPM hard drive.

If your ThinkPad is an older model and uses ATA drives, only the Seagate Model 7200.1 and the Hitachi Model 7K100 are 7200 RPM notebook drives, up to 100GB.

These drives are no longer in production, and a NOS Hitachi or Seagate 7200rpm PATA drive commands a higher price than the ThinkPad in question..

Max. bustransferspeed in the 600x is ~28mb/s. There is no need for a noisy highspeed hdd.

btw. the silent 160gig/5400rpm samsung works well with lastest bios

Is there a preferred make, or is that a daft question. I want to buy a new HD for my 600x. Something around 40-60GB.

If it could only last as long as the original 12GB one.
