Replace 600 mobo with... what?

#1 Post by donalr » Sun Jan 18, 2009 6:23 pm

Hi all,
You may remember me as the guy with the weird hard disk problems (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=68553). I've now decided that the hard disk controller is no more, ceased to be, expired and gone to meet it's maker, etc. In short, it's an ex-controller!

Anyway, because the rest of the machine is working perfectly - battery, screen, DVD drive, etc. - can anyone advise on what other motherboards would fit into this case?

The 600 is a 2645-450, if that's relevant, although as I'm thinking of replacing the whole board, I doubt it.

according to the HMM, the 600e uses the same motherboard mount points and
screws as the 600's--so that may be OK. Can you check the fru with IBM?

as the 600x has a mini-pci slot the 600/e lacks, I think that one won't fit.
the way up and the way down are the same (heraclitus)

I have a 600 from a forum member with a 600e mobo in it, so I know that it fits. No experience with 600X's...

I'd offer to send it to you, but I have two parts units and I can't remember which one had the bad mobo... I'm getting a keyboard error on both of them since I don't have one, but as far as I know, there may be other problems beneath that. The forum member sent them to me for the screen, and said something about a bad disk controller on one of them.
560, 560, 560, (all in various stages of completion/possession of a screen) 600E that's pretty dead, and a spiffy new X61 Tablet.

600 + 600e mobo will fit.

600x mobos needs the complete lower case from 600x (other soundbraket, other modem, other floppy adapter, memory mini-pci...). keyboard, kb-brezel, subboard, complete screen will match with 600e and the 600 13.3".

Look for 600x/650mhz with bad keyboard/trackpoint/screen/battery/hdd/without power supply... and get the P III-power
