I was trying to reinstall XP on 600X 2645 8eg. So I have swithed power off manually, withoug shutting down windows. After that it does not show any live signals. I plugged electricity, but no LED lights, does not start at all. Is it dead?

Sounds odd to me.

When you powered off, did you hold the power button for more than 5 seconds?

Don't ask me why this works, but I have found sometimes you can pull out the battery, unplug the power cord and press the power button once or twice, then put the battery and power cord back in and try turning it on. I have found many times this does wonders.

Of course, FWIW, try reseating everything. And try without the battery installed.

On the down-side, once while reinstalling Windows 2000P on my 600X it too just bombed after a power down. Had to get a new mobo for it. Hope this is not your trouble. If, however, it is your problem, I found a replacement board on ebay (caveat emptor) for $85 shipped or thereabouts.

Good luck.

Are you in Oslo one day, the beer is on me.

Really strange what happened but important thing is it worked. And yes, I held power button for more than 5 seconds.

Dear Arunas,

No worries, not really a trick either. Seems the modern BIOSes and systems use a software switch rather than a hardware switch, so with ACPI and other such thingies, the power button can actually function as a power button, a standby button, or even a hibernate button. Sometimes a quick single press will just send it for a snooze and leave you in the cold. So a simple press of the power button, for less than 5 seconds should resume, assuming there is nothing wedged in the system that actually has it ground to a halt.

Glad it is working, would hate to have a 600X die out there, I really like the 600X.

Next time in Oslo, will look for you. ;-) Hehehehe I have never been out of the states! Wish I could, just don't have funding for such things! :-)
