I have a clean 560Z with a 233mhz processor and 96mb ram with 7G HD. But without external floppy, no CD.

1. I like to upgrade to make it faster but without spending too much $$ (eventually with linux install).

2. which is a must to upgrade (to upgrade bios, has the original bios) do I have to have a external floppy?, or PCMCIA CD necessary (will have to look at ebay) the hardware. (is the RAM maxed out?)

3. Anyone try to install CF-IDE HD converter and run the CF card as the HD?

thanks,

gychang

I've owned 560E an 560X machines but never a 560Z, so my info is a bit limited. Keep that in mind.

I think the 560Z (unlike prior 560-560X machines) had a removable processor. Like this one perhaps: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0032692545 Open up your machine and check before ordering though!

No, 560Z has Mini Cartridge PII Mobile CPU, but it's upgradeable to 400MHz. Like this: http://processorfinder.intel.com/detail ... Spec=SL3JW
