560Z with linux, anyone?

#1 Post by gychang » Wed Jan 28, 2009 1:01 pm

I have the 560Z but without external floppy or PCMCIA CD.

What distro work?, wireless card?, I have no OS installed on 7G HD now.

1. Do I have to get external floppy (can install DSL via floppy, I think).
2. if I get PCMCIA CD, will the bios recognize it on startup and allow to install the linux?

any help will be appreciated.

Puppy Linux 4.1.1 on 560Z

Borrow an external floppy if you can. This would be easiest.

Does your BIOS allow booting via network? That is another option, though I have no personal experience with it.

those links are very helpful, thanks.

I bought a external floppy and waiting... I am excited. The video shows Puppy is rather quick on this "slow" machine.

I have Puppy Linux running on Thinkpad600E, and it is about as fast as Windows 98 and
has the added advantage of having drivers for my D-link wireless card.
