Thinkpad i 1200 Series
Thinkpad i 1200 Series
I am trying to help a friend out with her thinkpad. The os is completely gone and we tried to install an os, but the usb port didn't reconize the external floppy drive that I have. I wouldn't be opposed to buying a new external floppy drive for her but I'm not really sure what to get. HELP!!

wow so many views, no reply.
I'm assuming you dont have CD ROM?
What are you going to install with diskett, DOS?
More info would be nice.

Re: Thinkpad i 1200 Series
I am not personally familiar with the i series 1200, but looking at the Hardware Maintenance Manual, one of the following should work. Before you buy a new FDD, first check in the BIOS setup menu that the floppy drive is first in the boot order.
FDD Module (USB)-TEAC 05K9283
FDD Module (USB)-Sony Ye-DATA 06P5221
Hardware Maintenance Manual (October 2001) - ThinkPad 130, 1200, 1300

Re: Thinkpad i 1200 Series
If I'm not mistaken, the i1200 should also be able to boot from CD.
Before assuming that floppy drive is bad, try using it with a different computer to see if it reads disks.
