Testing the dc-dc board on a 560x

Hi,
The battery in my 560x is dead and refuses to charge. The charging indicator keeps flashing orange and the battery pack doesn't warm up. I'm using the machine off the AC adapter.
Since a new battery is expensive, I'd like to test the old one to see if it's really dead, or if the problem lies with the dc-dc board.

Can someone give me some leads here? Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

If you have a battery store nearby, you can take your battery there and they will test it for you. Usually for free.

Go get your hardware maintenance manual and go through the power system checkout procedure.

Do NOT leave the battery in the unit if the charge light continues to blink amber!

The battery is most likely dead (internally shorted) and leaving it in the unit will eventually kill the DC/DC card or circuit.

I figured on that. So the battery is out. Also, I live in a relatively small town in India and laptops are not in wide use here. So, I can't locate a battery store within a thousand kilometres of here.
Would appreciate it if someone could give me a way to test the dc-dc card.
I'm hunting for a replacement battery. At 100USD it's relatively cheap, since a used laptop in India costs at least 4 times that.
