Hitachi e7k60 incompatibility with 600x???

#1 Post by coloradoz » Fri Mar 06, 2009 12:17 pm

I just got done trying to use an e7k60 with my 600x with very disappointing results (It took about 40 minutes to boot after the 'upgrade'). Does anyone know for sure if there is really some sort of incompatibility with using this drive with the 600x??? I googled for it and came up empty.

There is something very wrong with that picture, since I've known people who had these drives in 600x units and they worked just fine...

Do you have another laptop you can try the drive in? It sounds like it's probably broken.

I'm running one of those in a 600, have been for a couple years.

I'm with Ajkula - something's very wrong here. What happens if you put the original drive back in this machine?

I just had a similar problem with my 770Z, only worse - it never did start up! I booted from a Windows 98 startup disk, and used FDisk to clear the partitions and Format to reformat the drive, then started Setup from the command line. Everything is working fine now!

Try it. If your format or partitions are messed up, or if Windows goofed itself up, this should fix everything. If it's a hardware problem, it won't, but at least you'll know.
