Hello friends:

I have laptop IBM ThinkPad 1200 i Series 1161-217. Months ago the screen was broken, but I have bought a new LCD in ebay. I have installed it, but when power on the laptop, the LCD shows vertical lines in RGB colours.
(See the picture attached)

The first image when power on the laptop is the IBM logo, I say this because this logo is in 3 colors (red, green, blue), and the vertical lines showed are also in these three colors. The laptop runs Windows 98, but that vertical lines is still, no changes does in the screen.

When I power off the laptop and power on new, show the same lines but in another order. Shows in random positions and random colors every time, but the problem is the same.

The laptop work fine with external monitor!!.

Can be the cable LCD-Motherboard?. Before breaking the screen everything worked well, but I don't know if the blow could damage the cable or the connector of it. In that case, how I can verify the cable and repair it?.

I have the datasheet of the LCD (I can know the pinouts of connector of cable), but I not have the pinouts of the VGA-Motherboard for verify the cable pin to pin.

Any suggestion?.

Thanks.

I'm going to put my money on either the inverter or the video cable. Try figeting with it and make sure it's seated in place snugly and properly. You might also want to replace it if you can't get the screen working with the current cable.

Another thing Ijust thought of. If the motherboard originally was with a 13" monitor and you put in a 12" monitor or vice versa, you'll need to reflash the bios since the different monitors address differently.

Hello AlphaKilo470:

Thanks for your reply...

The video inverter can't be because the LCD iluminates well and the vertical lines is seen well.

I have disassembled several times the video cable and I have fitted it well, but the problem persists.

I want to know they opinion, to know if it can be or not the video cable, and to see if somebody can suggest to me how to verify it, or know the pinouts of VGA-Motherboard for test it pin to pin.

It is possible that it is some other failure that is not the cable?.

Thanks.

Finally I have been able to verify that the cable is bad.

When disassemble the shield of the cable, have 5 integrated circuits, each ones controls one part of the LCD (axis, refresh...), and at least two are bad.

I have posted an announcement in the "User FOR SALE/Want to Buy" for buy this cable. If somebody has one to sell, please go to that forum and post the price. The cable reference is FRU 27L0552.

Thanks :)
