iSeries Won't turn on anymore

#1 Post by lokelYokel » Wed Jan 26, 2005 1:23 am

Hi there,

I'm having trouble with my iSeries laptop, machine type 1161-71U. It seemed to be working fine until I tried to plug in my external 3.5 inch floppy drive. Supposedly it's a plug-n-play device, but the machine suddenly turned off and now will not turn back on. I imagine it was some kind of short circuit or something like that but I know little about such issues.

Has anyone heard of problems similar to mine? Is there anything I can do to fix it? How can i find a licensed service center for this model, if necessary?

I'm kind of in trouble as it's my last semester of college, I need to finish my senior thesis, and all of my work was on that computer, so any help is much appreciated.

First, you should try finding the emergancy reset switch. It is usally hidden on hte backside or underside of the laptop and is usually red, blue or yellow. Try pressing that, then turning on your machine. If you can't find the switch and/or the ThinkPad still does not work, disconnect all batteries and power sources and leave the computer to sit for a day or two.
