770ED DVDs will not Play After Upgrade to Win ME

#1 Post by Guest » Sun Jun 06, 2004 2:35 pm

I upgraded my 770ED 9549-5AU to Win ME. Its a stock machine with 192 MB RAM. It was a clean install by first using the original recovery diskette, upgrading the drivers and installing Win ME over that. Except for the DVD, its working great (running cooler than it did with W95 or W98 for some reason).

Prior to the uprgrade to Win ME, the DVD drive would play DVDs fine. I have both SoftDVE and DVD Express installed (I know that they weren't supposed to be installed together but they always worked). Soft DVD seemed to work slightly better. Can anyone recommend software that will work with Win ME or tell me what to do to restore the DVD function? The IBM web site has nothing about Win ME on a 770ED (the driver matrix does not mention it).

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance, Knute

Problem solved. The DVD Express upgrade on the TP 770 driver page is limited to W95/98. I went to the TP 600 driver page and downloaded a newer version that is applicable all the way up to XP. Works like a charm. Makes you wonder why IBM just didn't put the latest version on all driver pages (since this one also lists W95/98 as applicable). Thanks for looking. Knute.

RXERO.....Why bother installing any extra software...With XP...when you install the win2000 Mpeg feature drivers..you can just use windows media player for viewing DVD's....Works great.....Better than DVDExpress IMHO..

The DVD Express upgrade that worked for me can be found at:

Good Luck! Knute
