#1 Post by rwilcher » Sun Mar 22, 2009 12:15 pm

Is anyone familiar with this error code on a 600x? The docs I have say
this means

8611: System bus
error–I/F between 8042
and IPDC. anyone fixed this type of thing ?

Thanks.

Generally a 8611 error indicates a problem with the keyboard; specifically, the trackpoint control. Easiest way to fix the problem would be to replace the keyboard/keyboard bezel assembly with a known good unit. You should use the Hardware Maintenance Manual to do this:

You can use the search feature (link at the top of the page under the "thinkpads.com" banner, plug in "8611 600x" into the search field (without the quotes) and read back through some of the older posts.

Thats what I thought. I will poke around ebay for a keyboard ASSY but
got it workable with an external PS/2 mouse and disabling it in the meantime. Its been broken for a while and I have been ignoring it.
It's just a toy for the kids
